Meyer Lemon

The Meyer Lemon Tree

Chances are if you see a potted lemon tree, it’s a Meyer. It’s the most popular homegrown lemon variety for good reason. Meyer lemon trees are very easy to grow and an abundant producer throughout the year.  It also helps that in blind taste challenges, the Meyer is more times than not the people’s choice among lemon varieties.

A once commercial crop, the Meyer lemon was nearly wiped out due to a virus.  This “improved” version has since been the most commonly grown lemon tree as houseplants. If you are new to citrus, consider purchasing a Meyer.

A tiny Meyer lemon cut open. No juice. Miniature fruit are not worth having. If your tree’s growth is stunted, then take off any fruit not close to maturity. Resources can then be put into new buds instead of mediocre fruit.
Blossoms of a Meyer Lemon Tree
Blossoms are violet when first seen, then fill out to a more violet with splotchy white. The tips will usually be fully white.  The inside of the pedals are white.
